Addressing a press conference at Al-Markaz Peshawar on Sunday, he also urged the lawyers community and human rights bodies to raise their voice against the draconian law.
Sirajul Haq also announced a countrywide protest on July 14, against the Israeli bombings in Gaza leading to large scale killings of Palestinians. He called for convening an immediate moot of the Muslim rulers to discuss the grim situation and decide a common line of action on the issue. He said protest rallies would be held in all big and small cities and towns to denounce Israeli aggression
He stressed upon the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to step forward and play a leading role in uniting the Muslim states for sending a strong message to the Zionist state. The JI chief said that the PPO would be used against the political opponents of the government. He however warned that time might come when these laws would be used against those who were framing these, as there were such precedents.
He said under this law, a grade 15 officer could order shooting on citizens while the police and the law enforcement organizations could keep a citizen under detention for a long period, which was sheer injustice.
Referring to Israel’s hostilities in Gaza, Sirajul Haq said that Israel could not dare to commit aggression against the Palestinians without the US backing. He said that the Muslim world should lodge protest with the UN. However, he said, the question was why were the Muslim rulers a silent spectator over the Israel’s aggression. Wont they be answerable to Allah Almighty for their attitude, he asked.
