Lahore: The Sports Board Punjab (SBP) boxing team will take part in the Velo Cup Chaudhry Nawaz Ranking Boxing Championship being held at Islamabad from June 16 to 21, 2014.
The 10-member SBP boxing team will be picked from 17 probables on June 14 (Saturday). Shahid Khan of Sargodha has already been named captain of the team. The SBP boxers are being trained at a boxing camp organised under the auspices of Punjab Boxing Association (PBA) at the National Hockey Stadium. Chief coach Olympian Babar Ali and his 4-member coaching team are supervising the camp since June 2, 2014.
The Director General Sports Board Punjab (SBP) Usman Anwar visited the SBP boxing camp on Friday where the young boxers were introduced to him. The DG SBP watched the camp training minutely and admired the performance of both young players and their coaches. On this occasion, he pointed out several technical flaws and gave valuable tips to young boxers. Muhammad Ejaz Nawaz, General Secretary Punjab Boxing Association thanked the DG SBP for visiting camp and encouraging the young boxers.
All the leading teams of the country including Sports Board Punjab (SBP), Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, Fata, Army, Navy, Air Force, Wapda, Railways and HEC will participate in the championship.
The bouts of the championship will be held in nine weight categories such as 49 kg, 52, 56, 60, 64, 69, 75, 81, 91 and 91 plus.
