SOP’s must be implemented while treatment of seasonal diarrhea and gastro: Secretary Health

Lahore: Secretary Health Punjab, Dr. Ijaz Munir has directed Director General Health, Executive District Officers Health and medical superintendents of all government hospitals to ensure complete implementation of SOPs and instructions issued by Health Department for the treatment of seasonal diarrhea and gastro.

He was presiding over a meeting to review seasonal diarrhea and gastro situation in the province, here today. Additional Secretary Health (Technical) Dr. Salman Shahid, Acting DG Health Dr. Jamil Ch., Medical superintendents of all the hospitals of Lahore, Dean Institute of Public Health Prof. Muaz Ahmed and Prof. of Epidemiology Dr. Farkhanda Kokab were present.

The comparison of seasonal diarrhea and gastro situation of 2013 and 2014 was presented in the meeting.  The experts informed that diarrhea and gastro cases among children are common in summer season and situation this year is no different. It was told that arrangements are available in all government hospitals for the treatment of gastro and seasonal diarrhea while necessary medicines, ORS and drips are also available in abundance. It was informed that the patients of gastro and seasonal diarrhea coming to hospitals are being provided necessary medical facilities.

Secretary Health directed that coordination with all districts be maintained and data of patients visiting hospitals be collected on daily basis. He directed officers to pay field visits to gain knowledge about the situation so that timely and proper planning could be made in this regard.
