Lahore: Inter-Provincial U-14 Boys Football Championship got under way at Boys Degree College ground, Rawalakot on Tuesday. Director General Azad Kashmir Sports Board Mansoor Qadir Dar inaugurated the event in a large ceremony which was also attended by Deputy DG Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Shahid Aslam. Kh Arshad Hasan is performing as organizing secretary.
The seven participating teams have been divided into two pools. Punjab, Islamabad, Azad Kashmir and Fata are in Pool ‘A’ while Pool ‘B’ is comprised of Gilgit Baltistan (GB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KP and Sindh. According to schedule, three matches will be played daily and the two top teams from each pool will make it to semifinals of the tournament.
The Sports Board Punjab (SBP) under-14 boys’ football team launched the event in a thumping fashion and pulverized Islamabad 11-0 in the opening match. The SBP boys demonstrated wonderful ball control and passing during the one-sided affair. Usman Ali and Shahid Fareed exhibited superb form and netted 4 and three goals respectively. Yaseen Zulfiqar sent the ball into goalpost twice while Kamran Asghar and M Mehran contributed one goal each.
