Lahore: The Lahore High Court summoned top Pakistani politicians including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, former president Asif Ali Zardari and chairman Pakistan Tehrek Insaf Imran Khan during the hearing of a petition seeking court’s directive for politicians to bring their foreign assets back to Pakistan on Tuesday .The hearing was held in the courtroom of the High Court judge Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan.
The list of politicians summoned includes former president Asif Ali Zardari, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan, PTI Vice Chairperson Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Pakistan Peoples Party Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari,former prime minister and president Pakistan Muslim League-Q Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafri, who filed the petition, claimed that these politicians caused a huge loss to the national exchequer by transferring at least $200 billion to foreign countries through money laundering.
After issuing the order, Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan adjourned the hearing till June 16.The court further ordered that the politicians who could not be informed, should be notified through advertisements.
On May 9, LHC had issued notices to federal government and at least 64 politicians for not submitting their affidavits about alleged money laundering. A few of the politicians claimed that they have not received the notices as yet. In light of this, the court today decided to issue a public notice in this regard.
