Lahore: Punjab Board of Investment & Trade signed an MoU with the Canada Pakistan Chamber of Commerce for collaboration of both organizations in the fields of energy, mining and agriculture.
Both organizations would also facilitate each other in events and exchange of delegations. The MoU was signed by Director General Investor Relations PBIT, Jalal Hasan and President Canada Pakistan Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Mehreen Javaid.
Minister for Industries Punjab, Ch. Muhmmad Shafiq, Canadian High Commissioner, H.E. Greg Giokas, Political & Trade Counselor for Canada, Denis Chouinard, PBIT officials and businessmen from the private sector representing Canadian companies were present on this occasion.
Ms. Mehreen Javaid thanked PBIT for all the help extended in facilitating meetings with Govt. officials and private businessmen.
Canadian High Commissioner H.E. Greg Giokas, in his address mentioned that Pakistan is a very competitive country in terms of trade in many sectors like energy, mining and agriculture. He quoted Canada’s example of opening free trade to the United States in order to improve competitiveness and sell more products to the U.S.
He further said that Pakistan has been given the status of Most Favored Nation for trade in the agriculture sector, so it should make the most of it as one quarter of Pakistan’s GDP comes from the agriculture sector. He also stated that Pakistan has a large livestock sector and Canada has the best dairy producing animals so Pakistan should consult Canada for its expertise in the sector.
Canadian High Commissioner also stressed the need for comprehensive policy development and interaction with provincial and federal governments for the said purpose.
