Lahore: Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Health Kh. Salman Rafiq has said that healthy teeth and gums are essential for prevention against heart and other diseases.
He was speaking at inauguration of Dental Health Week to be observed with the cooperation of Colgate company at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, here today.
The week will continue till May 16. Principal Fatima Jinnah Medical College/ Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Prof. Dr. Fakhar Imam, Medical Superintendent Dr. Umar Farooq Baloch, Incharge Dental Section Dr. Asim Farooqi, representative of Colgate company Maqsood Abid and a large number of patients were present.
Dr. Asim Farooqi informed that Dental Health Week is being observed in various government hospitals with the cooperation of Colgate company for highlighting the importance of oral health. He said that free of cost examination of patients will be conducted during the week while they will also be provided free treatment facilities as well as health education.
Representative of Colgate company Maqsood Abid told that a target of examination of one lakh patients has been fixed for the week. He also offered his company’s cooperation to the Health Department in launching a special campaign for the checkup of children in schools.
Kh. Salman Rafiq appreciated the fact the corporate sector is playing an active role in development of health sector and has cooperated in upgradation of various sections of hospitals, construction of wards and establishment of dialysis centers. He said that civil society, industrialists and well-to-do segments play their due role for the welfare of the poor in civilized societies.
Kh. Salman Rafiq said that a programme will soon be evolved for launching a campaign with the cooperation of private sector for highlighting the importance of oral health and treatment facilities for dental diseases will also be improved in hospitals.
