Minister presides over a meeting for checking deaths of the children by falling into open manholes

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Housing, Communication & Works and Public Health Engineering Malik Tanveer Aslam Awan presided over a meeting for checking deaths of the children by falling into open manholes.

Commissioner Lahore Rashid Mehmood Langrial, Chairman LTC Khawaja Ahmed Hasaan, MPA Khawaja Imran Nazir, MNA Rana Afzal, MD WASA Dr. Javed Iqbal and DG LDA Ahad Cheema attended the meeting.

The meeting suggested that lids of manholes should be prepared from fiber instead of iron or other metal so that after theft, their sale could be checked. It was also decided that the duty regarding protection of lids should be assigned to such security agency as could accept complete responsibility of protection of the lids.

It was suggested that lids can be made safe against theft by placing electronic chips as well as iron grill under every lid so that deaths of innocent children could be avoided.

The meeting decided to launch a publicity campaign for creating awareness among the people in this regard. In case of any open manhole, its information should be given to the office of concerned TMO so that action could be completed within ten minutes.

The meeting also decided that services of legal experts would be sought for enhancing the punishment of persons involved in lid theft.
