Punjabi poetry met with loud applause at GCU

GCULahore: The Punjabi poetry, especially by eminent poets Baba Najmi, Sabir Ali Sabir Murrlii Chohan and Saad Ullah Shah, met with loud applause at the Punjabi Musharira of Government College University, Lahore.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman was the chief guest at the Musharira, which was organised by the GCU Punjabi Majlis in connection with the university’s 150th year celebrations.

Renowned poet Muhammad Khan Nasir chaired the Mushaira, while Registrar Dr Akhyar Farrukh and Urdu Department Chairperson Dr Haroon Qadir were also present.

As many as 30 prominent poets, including Shrif Anjum, Adal Minhas Lahori, Dr Naheed Shahid, Farhat Abbas, Veer Sapahi, Mushtaq Goga, Naseer Ahmed, Muhammad Butta Anjum, Habibullah Sahil, Prof Saadat Saeed, Arif Chaudhry, Amber Shahid, Rubina Yasmeen and Umair Ali Wasif presented their poetry.

Vice Chancellor Prof Rahman highlighted the importance of Punjabi and said it was an international language and was spoken in several countries. “Punjabi is the biggest language millions of people understand and communicate with each other through this language,” he added. He vowed that GCU would continue to work for the promotion of Punjabi language and literature.
