Just two operation theaters of PIC are operational :Prof. Bilal Zakaria

Lahore: Chief Executive Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Prof. Bilal Zakaria Khan has said that microbiological surveillance of operation theaters of the institute is a routine work performed by the administration every month besides fumigation of theaters is carried out in accordance with laboratory report. He said that currently two operation theaters of PIC are operational while seven have been closed for fumigation/ sterilization and will be made functional within a few days.

Prof. Bilal Zakaria said that presence of fungus in operation theaters is not an unusual however it is eliminated through fumigation. He said that no patient had died due to infection at PIC and rumours are baseless in this regard. He said that PIC administration is paying full attention to the treatment of patients and biological surveillance and fumigation is carried out for cleanliness of operation theaters.
