Lahore: Provincial Minister for Cooperative, Malik Iqbal Channar has said that Punjab government will purchase forty lakh metric tons of wheat from the farmers. He said that foolproof arrangements have been made to give due return to the farmers of their produce at wheat procurement centers and in this connection, 36 centers have been set up in Bahawalnagar and Vehari districts.
He expressed these views while addressing a meeting arranged by district administration today. The Minister said that the target of procurement of wheat will be met and the wheat will be purchased @Rs.1200/40 kg- fixed by the government. He said that besides district administration, police have also been put on high alert for transparent wheat procurement and the role of patwari has been completely eliminated. Malik Iqbal Channar said that direct monitoring of wheat procurement will be carried out and the mafia, interfering this process, will not be spared. He said that farmers are being provided every possible facility in provision of gunny bags and the transparency has been given top priority in this regard. The Minister said that it is binding upon the district administration to be honest in procurement of wheat so that the target could be achieved. No negligence will be tolerated regarding provision of gunny bags and procurement of wheat, the Minister concluded.
