A helpline to be established for complaining about open holes: Malik Tanveer Aslam

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Housing, C&W and Public Health Engineering Malik Tanveer Aslam Awan presided over an emergent meeting for avoiding the death of children due to falling into manholes.

The meeting was told that the Chief Minister Punjab while taking serious notice of death of two children due to falling into manhole a few days ago has ordered to evolve such a strategy as could help save the lives of innocent children.

MPA Kh. Imran Nazir, Commissioner Lahore Rashid Mehmood Langrial, MD WASA Dr. Javed Iqbal, DG LDA Ahad Khan Cheema, Additional Secretary Shahid Latif, MPA Rai Muhammad Nawaz Chohan, MPA Rana Muhammad Afzal and senior officers were present.

Senior officers presented various proposals for saving the children from falling into manholes.

Tanveer Aslam Awan proposed that in case of theft of lid, people should inform on helpline and action should be taken within ten minutes. Commissioner Lahore proposed that the weight of lid of manholes should be increased four times to check the theft.

Kh. Imran Nazir said that on the pattern of dengue brigade, a security brigade should be created in every town to ensure lid on every manhole.

Ahad Cheema said that such a chip should be attached with the lid of manholes, that in case of theft of lid, bells should start ringing in control room immediately.

MPAs suggested that strict vigilance should be kept on the lower staff as the lids are stolen due to their connivance. Provincial Minister constituted two sub-committees which will present their proposals to the committee within three days.
