Lahore: Provincial Minister for Population Welfare, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that about 12 thousand women die every year in Pakistan due to complications during pregnancy and child birth and it is five percent of total pregnancy-related deaths in the world.
She was addressing a seminar on mother and child health and nutrition arranged under family planning programme, here today. The Minister said that lack of awareness about safe techniques of family planning and other facilities is the main reason of continuous increase in birth rate. She said according to an estimate, Pakistan will be the fourth most populated country of the world by 2050.
The Minister informed that currently Pakistan is at number six She stressed upon the need to introduce family planning on emergent basis in Pakistan. She said that for the purpose of mother and child health and to check increase in population and death rate it is necessary that family planning techniques should be adopted immediately after birth.
