Lahore Press club organizes a hunger strike camp

Lahore Press club organized a hunger strike camp  in front of the Press Club president against the potential closure of Geo News and govt failure in arresting the accused who attempted to kill senior journalist  Hamid Mir .

While addressing the participants of the hunger camp, President LPC Arshad Ansari said this was a matter of great concern that eight days had passed but the attacker s could not be arrested. The Geo News vehicles were not being allowed to enter into some areas for live coverage and in some areas channel has been banned, we strongly condemn this act as this was a attack on free media,he added.

Press Club President Arshad Ansari said any embargo on  freedom of expression would not be accepted. He said all Pakistan press clubs meeting had been called on May 2,2014 in which line of action would be decided and on May 3 a  grand rally will be held from Lahore Press Club to Punjab Assembly to support the freedom of media and Hamid Mir.

Lahore Press Club Secretary Muhammad Shahbaz Mian , Member Governing Body Qamar Bhatti, Imran Sheikh, president PUJ Waseem Farooq, senior journalist Shafiq Awan , Imtiaz Rashid ,Maqsud Butt,Baidar Butt, Khalid Farooqi, Zahid Ali Khan, Anjum Rasheed, Sabir Shah , Zulfiqar Mitu and  a large number of the journalists attended the  Hunger strike camp .

It was pertinent to mention here that Arshad Ansari was not being allowed to enter in Jang group offices during the election campaign in December 2013 but he was fully cooperating with his journalist fellows to save their jobs despite the fact they opposed him undemocratic ways.
