PIA, Police, NBP and Army (Red) won their matches

Lahore: PIA, Police, NBP and Army (Red) have won their matches on the fourth day of the 9^thNishan-e-Haider Hockey Tournament at the Muttihullah Astroturf Hockey Stadium. PIA beat Navy 7-1, Police defeated Army (White) 3-2, NBP beat Steel Mills 7-2 and Army (Red) beat Port Qasim 2-1.

Navy stunned star studded PIA with a field goal in the 5^thminute of the first match. The Airliners were not expecting such an early onslaught by their inexperienced opponents. It was a beautifully move by the Navy forwards to beat the defenders and reach into the D where Kamran neatly deflected a pass into the net. But after leading by one goal they went into a deep slumber and only got up when the umpires blew the whistle to end the match. In the meanwhile, PIA not only leveled the score but also six more goals to outclass Navy. Ahsanullah scored two goals, both on penalty corners, in the 22^ndand 27^th minutes respectively. Yasir (29^th min), Imran Khan (33^rd min), Inyatullah (39^th min), Zubair (65^thmin) and Nohaiz (68^th min) scored field goals.

In the second match Army (White) took lead in the 3^rd minute when their forward Faraz Dar scored a field goal. Army maintained their supremacy till the end of the first half. Police had to struggle hard to equal the score. In the 47^th minute Police got reward of a combined move made by their forwards and Shejeel leveled the score with a beautiful flick. Adnan Babar’s goal in the 68^thminute gave their team 2-1 lead and finally Shejeel successfully converted a penalty corner in the last minute of the match (70^th minute) to earn a win for Police.

NBP faced no difficulty to beat Steel Mills in the third match of the day. After conceding a goal in the 11^th minute scored by Yasir Anwar, the Bankers bounced back mercilessly and scored four goals in a span of eight minutes. Hafiz Rizwan leveled the score by scoring a field goal in the 21^st minute. Tousiq Arshad scored two goals in the 22^nd minute on a penalty corner and a field goal in the 26^th minute. Arslan Qadir netted another goal in the 28^thminute. Sibtain Raza scored a field goal in the 48^thminute and another on the penalty corner in the 52^nd minute. Mohammed Dilber score the last goal in the 59^th minute.

Army (Red) completely dominated the proceedings in the first half and their defenders successfully guarded their fort. They also scored two goals by Mohammed Imran in the 24^thand 31^stminutes respectively. Both goals were scored on penalty corners. In the second half the Army (Red) only adopted a defensive strategy as they needed a win. Port Qasim’s lone goal was scored by Hanif Shehzad who successfully converted a penalty corner in the 38^th minute to reduce the margin.
