Lahore: Chairman Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association (PFMA), Nasir Akbar has said that PFMA represents the footwear industry of Pakistan which is a non-traditional industry which promises immense potential for growth for the country.
He expressed these views while addressing a press conference at local hotel, here today. He said that upcoming Pakistan International Footwear Show 2014 (PIFS) would be held from May, 9 to 13 in collaboration with the prestigious Lahore International Expo Center.
He said that government bodies such as TDAP, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industries and Lahore International Expo Centre are providing unprecedented support for this one of a kind exhibition, that will undoubtedly depict the Pakistani footwear market to the international arenas.
Nasir Akbar said that the last show attracted many exhibitors and over 25000 visitors, with this show already having sold stalls to over 150 exhibitors, while expecting well over 50000 visitors during the five days fair. He said that PIFS 2014 will be among the largest international fairs held in Pakistan, with representation from companies from China, India, Taiwan, Germany, EU and Portugal. These have already confirmed participation at the show. He said the show attracts a large number of foreign delegates who apart from being interested in the Pakistan’s footwear sectors also attend seminars and workshops concurrently held to project the potential of Pakistan’s footwear industry.
Chairman Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association said that the footwear industry has recently been awarded GSP+ status by the European Union Government, meaning Pakistani exports will become more competitive and attractive compared to our Chinese, Indian and other competitive counterparts. Therefore, implies that there is both a dire need and a huge potential to grow, market and project this industry in both local and international markets, he added. He said PIFS 2014 provides this very opportunity for local players to be exposed to international buyers and organizations.
Nasir Akbar said PIFS 2014 is the brainchild of PFMA and for the first time since its inception, the footwear association is independently hosting this show on its own accord, which is a phenomenal fete in itself. Given the profile of this exhibition, we are expecting a host of VVIPs including ministers, secretaries and the country’s premier to attend this international show, he concluded.
