Armed forces have no right to abrogate the constitution and take over: Liaqat Baloch

Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that the armed forces were a highly important national institution, and the strength of the democratic  system added to their competence and capability.Liaqat baloch

In a statement here on Friday, he said that the armed forces had no right to abrogate the constitution and take over. Similarly, no one had the right to criticize or ridicule the judiciary or the armed forces in the name of democracy.

He said that Pakistan today stood at an important juncture and if the government, the armed forces, the media as also the political and religious parties were one page and had same  views, peace could return to the country, terrorism could be wiped out and the country could be put on the path of economic progress.

The JI Secretary General said that the objective of the Government- Taliban talks was to end terrorism and to counter US and India’s conspiracies against the country. He said the talks had been heading in the right direction but as usual,   the conspirators were propagating of dissent to sabotage the talks.

He said that any differences between the government and the armed forces would have serious repercussions and it would be difficult to continue the talks.

He said terrorism could engineered in Balochistan and Islamabad for achieving specific ends and to keep this country in turmoil so that the US could dictate its terms.

Liaqat Baloch said it was at a much belated stage that the Prime Minister had stopped his ministers from issuing comments on Pervez Musharraf’s case, and irresponsible statements of the Ministers had complicated the situation.

He said if the government was sincere with the country and the masses,  it would have to adopt a sound strategy under the system failing which the country would suffer heavily, because after the elections in Afghanistan and India, internal harmony in the country was of utmost importance.
