Lahore: COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Islamabad defeated COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Lahore by 5 runs in a nail-biting encounter and qualified for the final of seven-match COMSATS–Lancaster Cricket Championship 2014, here on Thursday at the Qaddafi Stadium.
CIIT Lahore won the toss and invited CIIT Islamabad for batting first. Islamabad accumulated 119 runs in 19.4 overs. Awais Haider and Uzair Zameer remained prominent scorers for Islamabad with 21 and 20 runs respectively. Nouman Ahmad (14) and Talal Habib (13) also managed to reach double figures. Lahore’s Azhar Bajwa kept the opponent batsmen under pressure with his sheer pace and emerged as the most useful bowler with figures of 3-30. Haider Khan (2-25) and Muaz Tariq (1-12) were the other wicket-takers for Lahore.
Chasing a modest total, CIIT Lahore fell five runs short of target in the allotted overs. Inam-ur-Rehman offered maximum resistance with his unbeaten knock of 38. He faced 44 deliveries and hit three boundaries. Rizwan Sheikh scored 20 off 22 balls, Shahzeb Iftikhar 15 off 19 balls and Majid Mughal contributed 13 off 13 balls but they failed to achieve the required number of runs. Uzair Zameer, Talal Habib and Hamza Naseem grabbed two wickets each for 15, 17 and 22 runs respectively.
All-rounder Uzair Zameer of CIIT Islamabad was declared Man of the Match. Ahmad Shahab and Muhammad Basit were the umpires of the match while Masood Ahamd acted as scorer.
In the second match CIIT Wah Campus defeated CIIT Sahiwal Campus easily by 40 runs. Batting first Wah Campus scored 203 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Zafaran 45, Hamza Shah 37 and Jaffar Hussain were the main scorer. Atif took three wickets for Sahiwal Campus. In response Sahiwal Campus could score 169 runs for losing 9 wickets in process in 20 overs. Zeeshan Qaiser 39, Muhammad Yasin 37 and Adnan Aslam were the top scorer for the losing side. For Wah Campus Jaffar Hussain claimed 4 wickets giving away 40 runs and was declared Man of the Match.
Media manager COMSATS, Wasiq Qadeer said that the players were happy to play at the Qaddafi Stadium and their dreams have come true after playing there in the most beautiful ground.
