CS Punjab presides over a meeting of the steering committee of government departments

Chief Secretary Punjab Naveed Akram CheemaLahore: Chief Secretary Punjab, Naveed Akram Cheema has said that effective arrangements be made for ensuring smooth traffic on Murree Road during the construction of Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project. He said that additional force of traffic wardens and police be deployed for lessening the difficulties of the citizens and all necessary arrangements be made regarding equipment. He further directed that construction work on metro bus project be completed as per schedule.

He issued these directions while presiding over a meeting of the steering committee of government departments and concerned institutions regarding metro bus project. Chairman CDA, Maroof Afzal, Secretary P&D Arif Anwar Baloch, Additional Secretary Finance Ali Hassan Malik, Senior Joint Secretary Finance, RPO Rawalpindi Omar Hayat Laleka and senior authorities of the concerned departments were present on the occasion.

The Chief Secretary said that speedy completion of Rawalpindi Islamabad metro bus project would be ensured in the light of directions’ of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. He said that the purpose of the meeting of the steering committee is also to maintain a close contact between federal and provincial departments for continuing construction work speedily on the project besides settling technical and legal matters.

He said that government wants to complete this project of public importance in the minimum possible time so that a standard mass transport system could be available to the citizens as soon as possible.

After the meeting, the Chief Secretary also visited the site at Marir Hassan, Murree Road and inspected the construction work.

Commissioner Rawalpindi, Zahid Saeed who is also DG RDA and Project Director of Rawalpindi Islamabad Metro Bus Project while giving briefing informed that the work has been started on three phases of Rawalpindi section of metro bus project. Chief Secretary directed Chairman CDA and Deputy Commissioner Islamabad to identify the site for depot of metro bus project. RPO Rawalpindi Omar Hayat Laleka gave briefing regarding traffic management during the construction of metro bus project. He said that people are being provided awareness about the plan for smooth traffic at Murree Road including alternate routes through possible publicity. DCO Rawalpindi Sajid Zafar gave briefing regarding measures for elimination of encroachments. Chief Secretary expressed satisfaction over the pace of implementation on the decisions of steering committee made other day, mutual coordination among the departments, construction work and progress so far made on the project.
