Drs operated both shoulders in place of affected one, at JHL

Lahore: Ombudsman Punjab Javed Mahmood, has taken notice of operating both shoulders in place of affected one, at Jinnah Hospital Lahore. Doctors of Jinnah Hospital, first wrongly conducted operation of the right shoulder of Javed Iqbal and after that, just to cover their negligence, operated left one, which was fractured in an accident 12 days ago.

Ombudsman Punjab has directed Secretary Health to submit a report of this blatant negligence. This is a serious level of maladministration on the part of concerned doctors of Jinnah Hospital which have raised questions about the health facilities being extended at hospitals and health centers at other cities of the province.

According to details, left shoulder of Javed Iqbal, son of a senior staff reporter Iqbal Ahmad Nasir, was fractured in an accident on March 22. jinnah Hospital paramedical staff, after dressing sent him to ward and kept him on waiting list for 12 days for operation. On April 03, the concerned doctors, operated his right shoulder which was absolutely ok.

After realizing the fault, they operated left one, which was fractured. The patient is unable to move his arms as his both shoulders have been covered with dressing.

Ombudsman Punjab said that such incident was an act of serious level of maladministration on the part of doctors working at Jinnah Hospital, an important health centre of Lahore. He has directed Secretary Health to submit a report in this regard, fixing responsibility of negligence.
