Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has impressed upon the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister to speed up the process of dialogue as unnecessary delay could create complications.
Talking to different delegations at Mansoora on Sunday, he said that attempts to create uncertain situation during the talks were unfortunate.
He also urged the Taliban to release Prof. Muhammad Ajmal and others in their custody in response to the government’s announcement of releasing 13 of TTP men. He said that the extension of cease fire by the Taliban proved that they wanted peace and also desired the success of the dialogue within the constitution. He urged the government to go a step forward and immediately release the non-combatants, as the detention of aged, women and children could have its repercussions.
The JI chief also stressed upon the Taliban to try to bring all of their groups on one platform to ensure consensus on the formula decided by the government and the Taliban. He said the nation won’t hear the argument that this or that of the Taliban group differed with the agreement reached between the two sides, and added that the Taliban should announce their dissociation from any group which violated the agreement and join hands with the government for bringing such groups on the right path.
The JI chief said so far, there had been no such demand from the Taliban as could show that they did not accept the country’s constitution or were not serious in talks. On the other hand, the extension of cease fire proved that they wanted the dialogue to succeed. As such the government should also not make any such demand as could make them lose patience and withdraw from the talks.
He said, at present, the government, the armed forces and the nation were on the same page and the nation had full confidence in the government on this score. Therefore, the government should also try to expedite the talks.
