Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that government has adopted a solid strategy for exploration and utilization of mineral resources and full benefit will be taken of coal, iron ore and other mineral resources in the province. He said that iron deposits of billions of dollars exist in Rajua, Chiniot and a historic agreement has been signed with a Chinese company for their exploration. He said that a steel mill would be set up in Chiniot upon discovery of iron ore reserves which will result in provision of job opportunities to thousands of people.
He was talking to a delegation of Metallurgical Corporation of China during a meeting, here today. The delegation comprised Director General MCC Xu Yongjie, Deputy Chief Executive Officer Hu Chunqing and others. Provincial Minister for Minerals Sher Ali Khan, Chairman Planning & Development and Secretary Minerals were also present on the occasion. The agreement for exploration of iron ore reserves at Chiniot Rajua was discussed in the meeting.
The Chief Minister said that Chinese leadership and people have deep affiliation with Pakistan and several Chinese companies are making investment in different sectors in the country. He said that the agreement with MCC is an important step in the exploration of iron ore reserves. He said it is a matter of satisfaction that MCC has given assurance to complete the project within a minimum period. He said that the delay in the past can be made up through execution of public welfare projects as early as possible. He said that destiny of the whole area would be changed if high quality iron ore deposits were discovered from Chiniot.
Shahbaz Sharif assured that Punjab government would provide all out cooperation to the Chinese company working on the project. Director General MCC Xu Yongjie said that his company has vast experience in exploration of iron ore and the agreement signed with Punjab government for exploration of iron ore at Rajua would be speedily implemented.
