Lahore: Provincial Minister for Food and Chairman Cabinet Price
Control Committee Punjab, Bilal Yasin has said that government is working on a mechanism for providing necessary items to the people in abundance and saving them from price-hike. He said that strict instructions have been issued to the district administration throughout the province to keep a vigilant eye on price-hike and award deterrent punishment to the shopkeepers involved in profiteering.
He expressed these views while talking to the journalists, here today. The Minister said that government is implementing a comprehensive strategy for maintaining the prices of the edible items at reasonable level. He said that the prices of vegetables like potatoes, onion and tomatoes are determined daily on the basis of their supply and demand as well as production. He said that the crops of tomatoes and potatoes of Sindh have ended and now the demand of these items is being met through their import from India. He said that besides supply and demand, the administration is keeping a watchful eye on the opportunist profiteers and working in a better manner and the commodities are available at affordable rate in abundance in Punjab as compared to other provinces. Bilal Yasin said that government is paying special attention to progressive farming along with provision of edible items to the masses. He said that the aim of price control committee is to ensure availability of quality food to the people.
