Family of Amna Batool will be provided justice at any cost:CM Punjab

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that maintenance of law and order is the top priority of the government and all out measures are being taken for improving law and order in the province.  He said that maximum funds will be provided to police, however, it will have to perform its duties with commitment and efficiency and come up to the expectations of the masses.

He was presiding over a high level meeting to review overall law and order situation in the province, here today. Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah Khan, Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Secretary Home, Secretary Law, Secretary Prosecution and other concerned officers were present.

He said that measures are being taken expeditiously for the setting up of anti-terrorism force and its offices are being set up at divisional headquarters levels. He said that anti-terrorism force will become operational by the end of the current year.

Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that police should spare no effort for protecting life and property of citizens and redressing grievances of the aggrieved. He said that huge funds have been provided for improving the efficiency of police and modern training has also been arranged for its capacity-building. He said that work is being carried out speedily on the project of setting up a modern command and control center in Lahore.

He said that the center will help eliminate crimes through modern digital monitoring system. The Chief Minister further said that Punjab government has increased the package for police martyrs to Rs. fifty million and the government will discharge its responsibility regarding look after of the families of police martyrs in a proper manner. He said that free education and health facilities will be provided to the children of police martyrs and their families will also be provided houses.

The Chief Minister said that law should come into action immediately to redress the grievances of the aggrieved. He said that police will have to show better performance and utilize all its abilities and energies for improving law and order. He said that the officials showing negligence and dereliction of duty have no room in police department.

The Chief Minister further said that Amna Batool case of Muzaffargarh is a test case for police as the innocent girl had been subjected to extreme cruelty. He said that the family of Amna Batool will be provided justice at any cost and the Punjab government will bear all expenses regarding the case. He said that all legal demands will be met for ensuring due punishment to the culprits.

A video of interview of Amna Batool was shown to the meeting in which she complained about the police attitude and that police had demanded Rs.75 thousands for providing her justice.

The Chief Minister was moved to tears at seeing the video. He said that though the innocent girl belonged to a poor family yet she had self-respect. He lamented that the concerned police did not provide justice to the girl but now it is a test case for police and justice will be provided to the aggrieved family at any cost.

Shahbaz Sharif directed Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah Khan to review the progress of the case on daily basis. The Chief Minister said that he will personally monitor the case.
