Lahore: WAPDA’s Cyclists led their side to retain the title of the National Cycling Championship here on Friday at Cycling Velodrome. Director General Sports Board Punjab, Mr. Usman Anwar was the chief guest on this occasion. President, Pakistan Cycling Federation, Mr. Munawar Baseer; Secretary, Syed Azhar Shah and President Punjab Cycling Association,Mr. Moazaam Khan and Secretary, Farrukh Wazir were also present at the event.
On the final day, WAPDA won Two More Gold Medals to raise their overall tally and retaining the title in style, winning the 4 kilometer team pursuit and elimination race in the presence of a big gathering. In the 4 kilo metre race, WAPDA team was followed by Player from SSGC as Army secured third place and HEC finished at fourth place. WAPDA’s Cyclist finished at a timing of 4 minutes 50 seconds while SSGC’s Cyclist clocked 4 minutes 60 seconds followed by Army’s Cyclist got a timing of 5 minutes 01 seconds.In the Elimination Race, Mohammad Sabir from WAPDA got the First Place and Nisar also from WAPDA claimed the second place followed by Noor Aslam representing SSGC.
Later the chief guest gave away the prizes. Talking to the media, DG SBP, said that Pakistan’s cyclists possess great talent in cycling: “After watching great events of National Cycling Championship, I can say with guarantee that these cyclists will represent Pakistan in International events in future,” he added. DG. SBP, also assured his complete support to Pakistan Cycling Federation.
