Lahore: The Old Ravians XI Friday beat Vice Chancellor XI by 28 runs at the festival cricket match at the Government College University Lahore Oval Ground. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman graced the festival cricket match as Chief Guest, while Old Ravians Union President Kamran Lashari and former test cricketer Salim Malik were also present.
Earlier, winning the toss Old Ravians XI chose to bat first and posted the huge total of 218 runs in 15 overs under the captaincy of former chief secretary Punjab Pervaiz Masood.
Batting maestro, Old Ravians Kamran Lashari, Salim Malik and Muhammad Bilal scored some quick runs in the early overs. Solicitor Aziz Nauman Butt, who every come all the way from Hong Kong to play the match, scored 92 on just 46 balls.
Chasing a challenging total of 220 runs, Vice Chancellor XI could not face the heat and surrendered at the total score of 189. Director Sports Khadim Ali Khan, Azhar Iftikhar and Taha Sadaqat showed some resistance and played fine innings. Aziz Nauman Butt got three, whereas Salim Malik got two wickets.
Addressing the prize distribution ceremony, Salim Mailk recalled his memories associated with playing under the famous clock tower of GCU.
Speaking on the occasion, the Pervaiz Masood said GCU inculcates the true sense of fair play and sportsmanship. “I am fortunate to step inside GCU Oval as the guest Old Ravian as this is the place where I used to spend time as an ordinary student with my friends back in my college days”. It is like a home coming and this institution has a divine atmosphere to craft an ordinary person into a gem, Mr. Masood added.
GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Rahman congratulated the Old Ravian XI on wining the annual festival match.
Later, the GCU Vice Chancellor and Director Sports Khadim Ali Khan presented souvenirs to the distinguished Old Ravians and match officials.
