Lahore: Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs & Human Rights, Khalil Tahir Sindhu has said that recommendations will soon be made to the government for amendment in the family laws of minorities.
He was addressing minority members of Punjab Assembly in connection with International Women’s Day on March 8, here today. Members Provincial Assembly Shehzad Munshi, Tariq Gill, Shazia Tariq, Mary Gill besides Pastor Anwar Fazal, Raja Nathanial Gill Advocate and Provincial Secretary Javed Iqbal Ch. were also present on the occasion.
The Minister appointed Mary Gill MPA as convener of the special committee and directed her to submit recommendations regarding Christian family laws, including marriage, divorce and guardianship with the consultation of minority members which will be considered in a special meeting on Monday. He said that government will be informed about family laws in the light of these recommendations. The special committee also included members of Hindu and Sikh communities.
Khalil Tahir Sindhu said that a large number of women belonging to minority communities will participate in the function to be held in connection with International Women’s Day on March 8 and programmes have been finalized for various districts of the province.
