Lahore: Provincial Minister for Education, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that period of last 10 years will be called “decade of darkness” for Pakistan.
He was addressing male and female students of 26 universities of Punjab, winning provincial level Urdu and English competitions held under the aegis of High Education Commission at Lahore College for Women University, here today.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor LCW University Dr. Sabiha Mansoor in here welcome address had claimed “last ten years are golden decade for High Education in Pakistan”. Reacting to this statement, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said that last ten years were an era of darkness due to lawlessness, unemployment, energy crisis and closure of industry in Pakistan. Not a single kw of electricity was generated by any ruler during this period, he added. He said that incomplete Chicho ki Malian and Nandipur power projects disappointed our close friend China and its
leadership had refused to work with the previous rulers due to their greed for money. Today, the same leadership expressing complete confidence in Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif made agreement of 32 billion dollars for power projects and did not even sought sovereign warranty from Pakistan. He said that due to this agreement, 24,000 MW of additional electricity would be produced in Pakistan during next three years.
Director Academics Higher Education Commissioner Dr. Fida Hussain and Regional Director Dr. Nazir Hussain also addressed the ceremony and announced the names of the students showing outstanding performance in Urdu discussion. Azwar Abbas of University of Sargodha stood first, Haris Bilal of KEM University secured second position and Zahid Ali of GC University Lahore got third position. It was announced that the national level speech competition of male and female students winning provincial level competitions would be held in Islamabad next month.
