Lahore: A grand operation has been launched against selling of unhygienic and unstamped meat, for which raids would also be conducted throughout the city to eliminate illegal slaughter houses.
This was stated by Additional Chief Secretary Aamir Suhail, while presiding over meeting of Price Control Cabinet Committee, held at Civil Secretariat Committee Room today, which was also attended by Secretary Industries, Secretary Agriculture, Secretary Labour, Secretary Livestock, Secretary Food, Ex-MPA Haji Muhammad Nawaz, Commissioner Lahore and other concerned officers.
The meeting was informed that 9244 raids have been conducted against the sellers of unstamped meat, and 335 shopkeepers have been challaned. FIRs have been registered against 81 shopkeepers, while a penalty of Rs. one lakh 59 thousand 100 has been imposed on them, alongwith disposal of 2935 KG unhygienic meat. The meeting was told that around 3000 meat shops have so far been registered.
Talking on the occasion, Secretary Food informed that 158 samples of ghee were acquired, out of which 8 samples failed, 20 samples were passed, while reports of 130 samples are still awaited. The meeting was informed that committees for monitoring of milk quality are actively operating. Secretary Labour informed on the occasion that 26711 petrol pumps were checked and 70 pumps were sealed for selling substandard and below measurement. He said that 66 poultry shops have been sealed for selling poultry meat at less weight.
Secretary Agriculture informed that strict action is being taken at notified markets, including Johar Town and Mughal Pura for overcharging and profiteering. Secretary Food further also informed that the citizen can know about prices of everyday items by SMS after 09:00am by sending message on 80024, through Price Information System.The consumers just have to send the message with the text price and after giving space have to write his city and then he will get reply with the today’s price detail.
