Lahore: Chief Secretary Punjab, Naveed Akram Cheema has said that lack of funds will not become a hurdle in the completion of development projects. The officers of district administration should ensure completion of projects within the stipulated period for the benefit of masses, he added. He directed commissioners and DCOs to regularly monitor the development schemes and the officers displaying good performance be encouraged by awarding them commendatory certificates while disciplinary action be taken against the officers showing negligence.
He expressed these while addressing a meeting held at Commissioner Office Gujranwala to review development schemes in Gujranwala Division. Commissioner Gujranwala Division Shumail Ahmad Khawaja, Secretary Industries Irfan Ali, Secretary P&D Arif Anwar Baloch, Member Board of Revenue Malik M. Aslam, Secretary Health Babar Hayat Tarar, Deputy Project Director Land Record Computerization Capt. Retd. Muhammad Zafar and DCOs of all the districts were present in the meeting.
The Chief Secretary said that performance of district administration leaves a far reaching impact on the functioning of provincial government and it is duty of the district governments to implement the policies of the government effectively. If they perform well, the image of provincial government among masses will be good, he added. He said that policy making is the responsibility of secretaries while it is the obligation of commissioners and deputy commissioners to implement the policies. Therefore, all the divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners should perform their duties diligently, he added. He further said that implementation on development projects is the responsibility of district governments and he has planned to visit divisional headquarters on monthly basis to review the performance of local administration. He also ordered to blacklist the contractors who did not complete the projects within the stipulated period.
On the special request of Commissioner Gujranwala Shumail Ahmad Khawaja regarding revamping of sewerage system, the Chief Secretary approved a grant of Rs.200 million for this project. The Chief Secretary specially appreciated the performance of all DCOs of Gujranwala for land record computerization. The meeting also reviewed the price control and anti-dengue campaign. The Chief Secretary said that the campaign for overcoming price-hike by district officers has yielded good results and stressed upon the officers to continue their work with the same spirit.
