Fall of Dhaka could have been avoided:Syed Munawar Hasan

pic 1 (5)Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said that had Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s mandate been accepted and army operation not started, the fall of Dhaka could have been avoided.

Speaking at a seminar on the East Pakistan tragedy held in Islamabad on Monday, he said that the message of the Dhaka debacle was that the peoples mandate must be accepted and army operation going on any where in the country including Balochistan, should be stopped.

The JI Ameer said that the politicians who raised slogans of Udher Tum, Idher Hum, and also threatened  to amputate the legs of the MNAs going to  Dhaka were also responsible for the dismemberment of Pakistan as this finally led to the tragedy of 16th of December.

“After all what would have happened if Sheikh Mujibur Rahman travelled to Islamabad as the Prime Minister of the country”, he asked.  He said unfortunately, those coming into power after 1971 had not learnt a lesson from the biggest tragedy in the Islamic history. He said, army operation only widened the gulf between the armed forces and the people. He said the well wishers of the country had repeatedly drawn the government attention towards the negative effects of the military operations but the rulers were not heeding to their advice.

Syed Munawar Hasan, said that the Abdul Qadir Mullah’s martyrdom was neither the first martyrdom nor the last one in the Islamic history. He said there was need to understand the objectives of the martyrdom. He said all Islamic movements believed in peaceful, constitutional and democratic struggle.

He deplored that the PMLN) government headed by Nawaz Sharif even did not think of undertaking secret diplomacy to remind the Bangladesh government of the tripartite agreement between Pakistan, India and Bangladesh on the issue of war crimes under which the matter could not have been dragged to the trails of JI leaders. He also slated the Foreign Office statement in regard to the execution of Abdul Mullah , and said at least, a protest could have been lodged on this score and the  matter could have been  taken up at the International court of justice.

JI deputy chief, Sirajul Haq also spoke on the occasion.
