Lahore: Journalists held a protest demonstration against retrenchment of journalists from Dunya group outside Karachi Press Club on Friday.
Addressing the demonstration, President Karachi Press Club Imtiaz Khan Faran condemned the overnight retrenchment of 200 employees from Dunya group and demanded their immediate restoration.
President Karachi Union of Journalists (D), Sajid Aziz said that media owners had been hiring and firing journalists without any rules and regulations causing a panic among the community.
He demanded of the media group owners to follow proper rules, and code of conduct while relieving journalists from their respective institutions.
Secretary General Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, Khursheed Abbasi said his organization was going to launch an awareness campaign to acquaint the journalists about their legal rights vis-à-vis their job security.
Secretary KPC, Amir Latif, A.H Akhanzada, Hamid-ur-Rehman and others also spoke on the occasion.
