Ulema sign government’s code of conduct for religious harmony

Lahore: In order to ponder over increasing lawlessness in the country, sectarian violence, Rawalpindi tragedy, Karachi incidents, murder of Maulana Shamas ur Rehman and other matters, an “Istehkam-e-Pakistan Conference” was arranged by Pakistan Ulema Council at a local hotel today.

Allama Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi presided over the conference while Provincial Minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs Ata Muhammad Maneka was the chief guest. Jamaat-e-Islami leader Liaqat Baloch, PPP leader Naveed Chaudhry, Hafiz Qasim Raza Naqvi, Central leader Jamaat ud Daawa, Ameer Hamza, representative Ameer Hamza Trust Muhammad Rasheed Turabi, Allama Ibtesam Elahi Zaheer, Sahibzada Zahid Mahmood Kazmi, Mian Muhammad Aslam Naqshbandi and other prominent ulema attended the meeting.

Addressing the conference, Provincial Auqaf Minister expressed the hope that ulema will put-forth such proposals as would help promote environment of religious peace, tolerance and Ittehad Bain ul Muslimeen in the province. He said that with the support of prominent ulema and mashaikh, Provincial Auqaf Department will play its effective role in promoting unity and tolerance. He said that foiling the nefarious designs of the enemy and promoting religious tolerance and unity is a proof of the wisdom of our ulema.

At the end of the conference, all ulema who attended the conference seconded the code of conduct issued by coordinators Ittehad Bain ul Muslimeen. They said that the conspiracies of anti-state elements can be foiled through implementation of this code of conduct and the country can be made a heaven of peace. They said that the secret of eliminating violence and chaos and anarchy lies in acting upon the Islamic teachings.
