Lahore: Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has announced that the teachers’ transfer process now will resume in the month of June next year as a policy matter. This step has been taken to facilitate the deserving teachers who have genuine reasons for placement at their place of choice will be accommodated during the month of June every year so that the teachers could devote full time to their academic duties in the rest of the year.
He disclosed this transfer policy in a reception by MPA Mrs. Tahia Noon at her residence “Al-Waqar” here today. The reception was held in honour of Chief Executive Cambridge International Examinations Michael O’Sullivan CMG who is on a visit to Lahore. Country Director Cambridge University in Pakistan Uzma Yousuf Zaka, Director Examinations Services in Pakistan Murray Keeler and Director British Council Punjab Richard Weyers, Member Punjab Assembly Dr. Ayesha Ghaus, Additional Secretary Higher Education Department Punjab Shahid Zaman, Chairman Punjab Curriculum Authority Saleem Akhtar Kiani, Chairman Punjab Text Book Board Nawazish Ali, Chairman Punjab Examinations Commission Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, Chairman Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education Lahore Ch. Nasrullah Virk, Additional Secretary (Academic) Ali Bahadur Qazi, renowned lawyer Rana Asadullah Khan, Adnan Hayat Noon and other dignitaries were present in the reception. The Provincial Education Minister apprised the visiting British Educationists about key initiatives taken by the Punjab government to reform the education system under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif which include the Chief Minister’s special initiative of education reforms with a total cost of Rs.6 billion.
Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan informed that Punjab Curriculum Authority was reviewing the 27 text books and this gigantic task will be accomplished in near future. The Minister also apprised the Chief Executive Cambridge International Examinations Michael O’Sullivan about the “Knowledge City” which is a preferential project conceived by the Punjab Chief Minister under which an area of 852 acres has been allocated near Lahore Cantonment in Dera Rakh Chahal.
The Cambridge Chief Executive discussed possible areas of cooperation in promoting academia-industry linkage models at the proposed sub campuses to be established by various internationally acclaimed universities in the “Knowledge City” Lahore. He appreciated the steps taken by the Punjab government to link the promotion of public sector schools teachers with their key performance indicators.
Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan informed the British Educationists present in the reception that late Malik Feroz Khan Noon, grandfather of Mrs. Tahia Noon MPA, and the grandmother Lady Waqar un Nisa Noon had served Pakistan with a zeal and zest during their regime as Prime Minister of Pakistan and First Lady in 1956. It is pertinent to mention that late Prime Minister Malik Feroz Khan Noon had the credit to finalize a deal to purchase the Gawadar Port area from Sultanate of Oman for the larger benefit of the people of Pakistan which will remain a harbinger of sustainable progress for Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the centuries to come.
