Lahore: Punjab Minister for Women Development, Hamida Waheed ud Din has said that legislation will soon be made for the protection of rights of home based workers. She said this while addressing a seminar on “Ghar, Women Workers Problems and Their Solution” at Majeed Nizami Press Institute, here today.
Provincial Minister for Labour Raja Ishfaq Sarwar presided over the seminar while Begum Mehnaz Rafi, Senior President Human Rights Society, Executive Director Working Women Organization and Javed Pasha Senior Programme Officer Home Net also attended the seminar.
Hamida Waheed ud Din said that women are working shoulder to shoulder with men in every sector of life. She said that 52% population of the country consists of women while 70% of labourers. She said that the rich people are using various tactics to exploit labourers. They do not pay the workers due return of their hard work besides they have long working hours.
The Minister said that Social Welfare department is starting training programme for 1000 women workers with the cooperation of International Labour Organization. She said that government is also working to allocate 15% quota for women workers in private sector along with public sector under women package.
She said that women are playing an important role for economic development of the country and the products prepared by them should have an access to world markets so that foreign exchange could be earned. She said that there is a need to resolve women problems and the Punjab government is extending all out cooperation to various women organizations in this regard.
