International Human Rights Day marked with anti-India demonstrations in held Kashmir

Srinagar : In occupied Kashmir, the International Human Rights Day, today, was marked with seminars, arrests, protests and anti-India demonstrations to draw the attention of the world community towards the appalling human rights situation in the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, several people were injured when Indian police resorted to brute force and teargas shell on thousands of people at Magarmal Bagh in Srinagar today. The protest was led by the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik from Battamalu to Lal Chowk. Police arrested Muhammad Yasin Malik along with dozens of JKLF activists. The protesters raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, on the occasion.  Another protest demonstration led by APHC leaders including Musaddiq Aadil, Bashir Andrabi and Hakeem Abdur Rasheed at Press Colony in Srinagar.

The veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani addressing a seminar at Hyderpora in Srinagar, today, expressing concern over horrific state of human rights in occupied Kashmir warned India of dire consequences against its policy of obduracy on the Kashmir dispute. He urged the international community to break silence on the worst human rights violations by Indian troops in the territory and come forward in a big way to resolve the Kashmir dispute. The veteran leader called for a complete boycott of the so-called Kashmir Assembly elections.

The occupation authorities placed APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Agha Syed Hassan Al- Moosvi, Maulana Abbas Ansari and other leaders under house arrest to prevent them from leading protest demonstrations against human rights violations by Indian troops and police personnel.

The Indian police raided Mirwaiz Manzil and the residences of several Hurriyet leaders including Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik and arrested JKLF leader Showkat Ahmad Bakshi and Hurriyet leaders, Altaf Khan and Hilal Ahmad War. The police also arrested activists of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League during their protest demonstration in Srinagar.

Police took Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Mohammad Ahsan Untoo and Mohammad Yousuf Naqash along with scores of activists into custody when they were on their way to lead a procession towards United Nations Observers Group office at Sonawar in Srinagar.

Zafar Akbar Butt and Javed Ahmad Mir along with dozens of their party activists were arrested during protest demonstrations in Srinagar areas while Indian police arrested Mukhtar Ahmed Waza in Islamabad.

On the other hand, according to a report released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, today, Indian troops in their unabated acts of state terrorism martyred 93,978 innocent Kashmiris, including 7,014 in custody since January 1989 till date. These killings rendered 22,776 women widowed and 107,466 children orphaned.
