Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said that stopping NATO supplies was the issue of the entire nation and not of one or two parties, and the whole nation would have to make collective efforts for that.
In a statement here on Monday, he said the government so far had not produced any agreement with the US for allowing NATO supplies, and added that even if there was an agreement, the nation would not accept that.
The JI Ameer said that the only way to end drone attacks was to cut off NATO supplies and reject the US pressure on this score.
He said the Pakistani rulers had opted the path of collective suicide. The US, he said, was an open enemy of Islam and the Muslims. It was carrying on the massacre of the Muslims all over the world. Its enmity for Islam was manifest. But unfortunately, the rulers still took it as a friend. If the rulers did not change their attitude, the people would not tolerate them anymore.
Syed Munawar Hasan said it was a paradox that the despite the huge sacrifices made by Pakistan in the US war on terror, and the heavy financial losses suffered by this country, Washington considered Pakistan as an enemy and not a friend, and was violating our geographical and aerial borders every other day, making a mockery of our independence and sovereignty. However, the rulers were darkening the future of the nation and the country for the sake of a few dollars.
He said it was time that the people stood united to stop every form foreign aggression and force the rulers to give up the habit of terming their enemies as friends. He said the drone attacks would not stop by the rulers’ entreaties or protests. If the government was serious for stopping drone attacks, it would have to immediately announce stoppage of NATO supplies.
He said if the US wanted to pull out of Afghanistan next year, thousands of containers carrying US and NATO troops besides arms and ammunition would have to pass through our roads, thus further destroying the roads net work. He said the financial help received from the US won’t be sufficient even for roads repair.
Therefore, he said, it would be wise on the government part to stop NATO supplies and not restore these until and unless Washington stopped the drone attacks and also assured adequate funds for road repairs.
