Nawaz Sharif’s amnesty package for the investors is a shameful attempt to promote corruption

Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has condemned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s amnesty package for the investors and termed it a shameful attempt to promote corruption and plunder of public money.

In a statement here on Friday, he said that the corrupt elements coming in power filled their coffers with unlawful money but when ever there was a threat to their ill gotten wealth, a president or a prime minister would come forward to provide legal cover to their black money.  He said that through this scheme, the Prime Minister could whiten the black money of the corrupt people, but the evil nature of the criminals wont change.

The JI Ameer called upon the Supreme Court to take suo moto notice of the amnesty package announced by Prime Minister for the corrupt and refuse any concession to the plunderers of public money.

Syed Munawar Hasan said it was an irony that on one hand, the rulers were complaining of having inherited an empty treasury and had obtained heavy loans from the IMF on most humiliating terms, while on the other hand, they were giving shelter to those who had plundered national wealth with both hands. He said, the loot and corruption of the government functionaries had been the root cause of the price hike, unemployment and lawlessness. Unfortunately, the party that had secured votes by promising bringing the plunderers to the book and recovering the ill gotten wealth from them, was now protecting the plunderers.

The JI Ameer said that the government had made little effort to retrieve the billions owned by the corrupt lying abroad and added that had the huge amount been  brought back, the country could have been free from the clutches of the IMF.

He said the plight of the common man had worsened during the last six months of the present government which was not competent to pull the country out of the present  economic crisis. The prices of the essential goods, especially food items, had risen to abnormal heights, making the life of the poor miserable. He said that the Zardari gang was known for its corruption but the tales of the corruption of the present rulers were also on every one’s lips by now.
