Lahore City is a living museum

Lahore: Punjab Minister for Education, Tourism and Archaeology Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has termed the Lahore City as a living museum in each and every aspect and has assured the organizations doing valuable work to conserve the archaeological sites and façade restoration of significant buildings at the Mall, Lahore every assistance from the government of Punjab to make this cultural capital of Pakistan more attractive for the tourists. We should provide accurate information to the tourists coming here to witness the past glory of Mughal era and the contemporary architecture of Lahore whether they are domestic tourists or the foreign ones including dignitaries from abroad.

Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan expressed these views in a media talk after witnessing “The Lahore App.” organized by renowned Architect and Urban Analyst Attiq Uddin Ahmed, the Director of “OCCO” i.e. Office of the Conservation and Community Outreach.

This exhibition consists of computer applications, GMS, Google Maps, 3-D photo albums and icons related to built environment of Lahore City. Member Punjab Assembly Mrs. Tahia Noon, Managing Director TDCP Syed Habibur Rehman Gillani, Principal NCA Murtaza Jaffari, Additional Secretary Higher Education Department Punjab Shahid Zaman, the renowned art lover Kamran Lashari, the DG Walled City Project Lahore and old students of NCA witnessed the “Lahore App.” in a large number.

It was informed to the art lovers that this App. incorporated with Google maps of Lahore is available for both Apple and Google Android users. The App. allows users to locate specific buildings that OCCO has listed as important throughout the city. This navigation can be done both by geography and chronology, so that every user can make trips that let them locate architecturally or historically significant buildings from a specific era such a Mughal, Sikh or Post-Colonial.

The App. also features and intensively researched “Lahore Timeline” that highlights significant political and cultural events in the history of the Lahore city from 1000BC onwards. The App. is available for free downloads from both the Apple App. Store and Google Play Store.
