This was the 9th edition of Inter-School Mathematics Olympiad (ISMO) organised by Pak-Turk International Schools and Colleges in which students from class 5th to 8th were eligible to take part.

The first ISMO was held in 2005 after which it became a success as interest of students and their parents grew due to transparency and authenticity of the event.

The top three position holders will get cash prizes of Rs 30 thousand to Rs 50 thousand while the top position holder student of class 8th would be awarded with the title of ‘Al-Khwarzmi of Pakistan’ which will remain with him until the 10th ISMO scheduled next year.

The results of this contest would be announced in December the 6th after which national prize distribution ceremony would be held in Islamabad.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Education Pak-Turk Kamil Ture said that widest participation of students in ISMO is highly exhilarating. Math contests encourage intellectuality and competition which helps them in practical life.

Contests help students improve self-confidence, boosts ability to think about and solve complex problems, accept success and failure, and teaches them that effective performance requires practice as much of life is competition, said Ture.

He said that we are helping bright Pakistani students rediscover an interest in mathematics and avail social and intellectual opportunity which is evident from the enthusiasm seen here.
