Shopkeepers to be arrested for overcharging:Bilal Yaseen

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Food, Bilal Yaseen has said that all the market committees and shopkeepers of the province will display rate lists at the prominent places otherwise strict legal action will be taken against them.

He expressed these views while presiding over a high level meeting of price control committee. Provincial Minister for Industries Ch. Muhammad Shafiq, Agriculture Minister Dr. Farrukh Javed, Additional Chief Secretary Punjab and administrative secretaries of all the provincial departments were present on the occasion.

Bilal Yasin said that Punjab government is utilizing all available resources for providing daily use items to the people at reasonable rates. He said that DCOs of all the districts are monitoring prices of edible items in their respective districts and taking strict action against profiteers and hoarders.

He directed committee members that EDOs Agriculture of all the districts should remain present in the vegetable markets during bid besides monitoring demand and supply of vegetables and fruits. Provincial Minister further directed that the officers and officials of market committees should attend office in departmental uniform.

It was told in the meeting that during current month, a fine of Rs.17 lakh was imposed to the people for overcharging in all districts of the province.
