Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has cleaned 981 open plots across the city during its recent anti dengue campaign and resultantly transported 29214 tons of waste to dumpsite produced in the weeklong operations cleanup. Plot clearance operations were carried out in all the towns with special focus on rural areas where open plots are observed frequently to be turned into heaps of garbage. LWMC responded to 56 plot clearance complaints received on Helpline 1139 as well as 17 other complaints registered by special branch. Anti dengue spray has been ensured in and around the LWMC’s 4665 waste containers placed across the city as precautionary and preventive measures.
Besides this all, community mobilization and awareness activities are being carried out especially in educational institutions, dengue effected residential areas and markets to sensitize citizens on preventive measures about dengue. Rural and underprivileged localities are given special focus in this regard. According to company spokesperson, cleanliness and dengue awareness campaign is being initiated by the next week in the residential areas adjacent to city’s major drains i.e. Satukatla Drain, Cant Drain, Khizarabad Drain, Shahdra Drain, Shalimar Drain and Chota Upper Ravi Drain.
