Government wants to escape local bodies elections:Liaqat Baloch

Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami,  Liaqat Baloch, has said that the government wanted to escape local bodies elections on the pretext of the problems in the printing of ballot papers.

In a statement here on Thursday, he said the day to day developments in regard to the local government polls indicated that the rulers were bent upon denying the masses their right to elect the local governments. This was evident from the Federal government argument that the ballot papers could not be printed within the time limit fixed by the Supreme Court, he added.

Liaqat Baloch said that local bodies elections in accordance with the spirit of the constitution and the law were the democratic right of the people but the rulers wanted to deprive them of this right. He pointed out that whenever the PPP and the PML(N) had been in power in the past, they never held the local bodies polls and history was being repeated once a gain,
