Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that if Britain wants to help Pakistan steer out of energy crisis, it should provide long term loans to its industrialists and investors for installing electricity plants in Pakistan.
He was delivering presidential address at Pak-UK energy conference in London today. The conference was held at the historic building of Foreign Ministry and Common Wealth which was attended by members British Parliament, diplomats, senior officials and prominent investors. Besides Chief Minister Punjab, Federal Ministers Kh. Muhammad Asif and Ishaq Dar also addressed the conference. Provincial Energy Minister Ch. Sher Ali was also present on the occasion.
Addressing the conference, Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that after induction of PML-N government, the position of Pakistan has improved considerably according to the statistics of international institutions. Federal Minister for Power Kh. Muhammad Asif said that increase in energy production as well as its conservation is our priority.
British Minister Saeeda Warsi and Lord Speaker for Trade, Lord Tariq Ahmad also addressed the conference. The speakers paid rich tributes to Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for his efforts in energy sector.Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has saved the country from permanent darkness by paying circular debt of 450 billion rupees. He said that we have a number of formulae and projects for ridding of loadshedding which are being pursued vigorously.
The Chief Minister said that he and his team are visiting various countries for getting cooperation of friends for overcoming energy crisis. He said our government knows that if energy crisis was not eliminated, the dream of agriculture and industrial development in Pakistan will not materialize. Shahbaz Sharif said that we did not request any country of aid but demanded for technical cooperation and investment in Pakistan.
