Orient Textile Mills owner arrested for one billion theft

Malik Anwar arrested at HIgh Court premisisLahore: On the directions of the government, Punjab police arrested Malik Anwar, owner of Orient Textile Mills from the premises of Lahore High Court after cancellation of bail.

According to details, Muhammad Arshad Hameed Distribution Officer was informed on July 9, 2013 in Faisalabad that gas theft was being committed in Orient Textile Mills. On receiving this information, Shafi Ullah, Assistant Commissioner, Muhammad Asif Engineer UFG, Mumtaz Engineer Distribution along with Sui gas team raided the site.  After thorough checking and digging, it was revealed that Malik Anwar, owner of Orient Textile Mills had got two direct connections without meter from two main lines of Sui Gas Department.

The gas was being used in the factory in a gas generator (1-25M), one steam boiler and three thermal oil boilers. Malik Anwar had been committing gas theft of crores of rupees whereas his Admin. Officer Abdul Haq used to control volves of direct gas line and ensured supply of 1-2 megawatt gas to the generator and his colleague Ghulam Nabi used to control supply of stolen gas to the boiler.

The government appointed CPO Faisalabad Abdul Razzaq Cheema as Inquiry Officer to probe this matter who along with his team collected evidence for the case registered for this big scam of gas theft which resulted in cancellation of pre-arrest interim bail of Malik Anwar on August 17,2013 but due to his absence, he could not be arrested. Today when the accused again appeared before Lahore High Court, the police arrested him after cancellation of his bail by the court. Further investigation is continuing.
