Lahore: In order to promote public awareness regarding preventive measures against dengue, the main walk in the provincial metropolis, was held from Liberty Chowk Gulberg.
Provincial Minister for Education and Sports Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan led the walk while more than five thousand youths including students and important personalities such as Provincial Health Minister Khalil Tahir Sindhu, Provincial Minister for Environment Protection Col. Retd. Shuja Khanzada, Chief Coach National Hockey Team Akhtar Rasool, Boom Boom player of the cricket world Shahid Khan Afridi and the tallest cricketer of the world Muhammad Irfan participated in the event.
Due to active participation of thousands of young players of Lahore who participated in Punjab Youth Festival 2013, the awareness walk assumed the form of a historic event. The participants of the walk were carrying banners for promoting public awareness against dengue.
Addressing the participants of the walk at Liberty Chowk, Provincial Minister for Sports Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said that dengue caused much damage in Lahore two years ago but due to grace of Allah and tireless efforts of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, dengue was brought under control last year which is an extraordinary success. He expressed the hope that the strenuous efforts of various departments to check breeding of dengue mosquito in the water accumulated at different places due to heavy rains this year will prove successful.
However, he said there is a need for every citizen including students, youth, women and children to play their role in the eradication of dengue. He said that people should maintain cleanliness condition in their houses as well as their neighborhood to prevent the breeding of dengue mosquito.
The Minister thanked national heroes for participating in the walk.
