No one is safe unless our surrounding is dry and clean:Dr Masud Sheikh

Lahore: No one is safe unless our surrounding is dry and clean, the social and political workers should feel their responsibility, and visit their neighboring houses to inspect each and every possible site where dengue mosquito can flourish.

We should come out as a nation and as a political and social team, and should share our responsibility along with the Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif who has a great passion for dengue control, these view were expressed by the Chairman Pakistan Medical Society and president General Cadre Doctors Association Punjab, Dr Masood Akhtar Sheikh while holding an awareness workshop for social and political workers here at city hospital, Salamatpura Lahore. A large number of the political activist of PML N lead by Ch Atif, social workers lead by Malik Altaf attended the workshop. Dr Israr Hussain, Dr Shahid, Dr Asad also spoke on the occasion.

Talking about the risk of dengue fever this year Dr Masood Sheikh stressed that this year there is more likely hood of dr-masood(DHF) , which is a more dangerous form of the disease, as another serotype of the  Dengue virus has been introduced this years. He added that as the serotypes was not determined in last couple of years, so we are not sure that which viruses have attacked the province in last 7 to 8 years, since the first case of dengue was notices.

He emphasized that the province has previously been exposed to multiple virus, now the situation is quite different, if the same viruses attacks then the population will be resistant as a result of immunity, but if some other serotype of dengue virus invades the city or province then those already having a clinical or subclinical attacks of dengue fever will be at risk of dengue hemorrhagic fever, which may end up in grave consequences. It is therefore mandatory that the dengue surveillance level may be even better than before with more public involvement. He added that our health system should be planned to cope with the possible DHF cases.

Dr Masood Sheikh said that with a more aggressive dengue campaign we may be able to resist a possible attack of dengue. He emphasized that every dengue patient must undergo sero typing for proper planning of current and future attacks.  Chaudhary Ati said that that dengue prevention and cleanliness drive goes side by side, and it should be our prime responsibility to keep our house offices, industries, institutes, play ground etc to be as clean and dry as possible to avoid the dengue outbreak.

Dengue mosquito is very wise to save its generation as it had laid eggs in very safe places and its eggs can with stand drying for months and even more.
