Lahore: Relief Commissioner Punjab Nadeem Ashraf has said that on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, embankments and spurs of the rivers of the province are being closely monitored whereas a large quantity of sand bags and stones have been stored on the banks of the rivers which will be utilized at the time of need. No negligence and carelessness by any officer or staff will be tolerated in this regard, he added.
He expressed these views while talking to the officers during his visit to River Sutlej and Ganda Singhwala Headworks at Kasur today. Director General PDMA Muhammad Asif, DCO Kasur, officers of Irrigation other departments were present on the occasion. Nadeem Ashraf said that food and essential items have been stored in abundant quantity in the godowns and warehouses set up by PDMA which will be utilized during any untoward situation. He directed the administration to evacuate the people from adjoining areas of River Sutlej and Ganda Singhwala Headworks and all concerned departments should set up relief camps at these places. He said that motorboats, fiber boats, tents, life jackets, food hampers, rice, dewatering sets and other items have been provided to district administration Kasur. He directed to intensify monitoring of the bunds and spurs of River Sutlej and Ganda Singhwala Headworks. He directed the administration to take strict action against illegal occupants residing on the banks of the rivers and land would be vacated from them.
