Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) President Senator Ch Shujat Hussain has asked the Punjab Government to discard its oppressive attitude towards farmers and provide them relief in tube-well electricity bills immediately.
In a statement issued here today, Ch Shujat Hussain said that Rs 40 to 50 thousand monthly are being received from the farmers in Punjab on account of tube-wells electricity bills whereas in Balochistan Rs six thousand per month fixed are being received from farmers on account of tube-wells electricity bills which is great injustice and high-handedness with the farmers of the biggest province of the country which is also producing food grains more than others. . He demanded that the government should immediately charge the same rates from the farmers of Punjab also which are being received in Balochistan.
Continuing, Ch Shujat Hussain said that during the tenure of the Peoples Party Government, we had accepted the demands of the farmers and announced that at a press conference and the same were also approved by the then President and the Prime Minister but following change of the government, the present government has not issued any notification in this regard. The PML President said that if the government did not accept the demands of the farmers, then we would fully support Kissan Ittehad Tanzeem in its protest on August 26 and our party workers will also fully participate in this protest.
Ch Shujat Hussain said that Ch Parvez Elahi as the Chief Minister Punjab had provided full relief to the farmers and no farmer had come out on the roads for acceptance of his demands. He reiterated that we are with the farmers’ brothers even now and fully support their genuine demands, the government should immediately accept this genuine demand of the farmers and provide relief to the farmers of the Punjab also like Balochistan in the tube-wells electricity bills.
