Lahore: The Board of Governors of Queen Mary College Lahore has accorded approval to enhance the annual tuition fee from Rs. 6000 to 6600 per annum. The additional income to be yielded through this enhancement in fee will be utilized for expenditure incurred on the recruitment of new teachers and other staff if required on emergency basis.
Provincial Minister for Education Punjab Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan while presiding over the meeting of the Board of Governors, directed that formal rules for temporary hiring of staff be formulated and the Principal will be bound to get prior approval of the BOGs before recruiting additional staff in the college. The Minister directed the Higher Education Department to identify grey areas in the management of Queen Mary College Lahore and ensure that college funds are being utilized according to the treasury rules 1988. He expressed his resolve to transform all the autonomous educational institutions into centers of excellence and ordered to conduct annual performance audit of the teachers of Queen Mary College Lahore. A detailed third party evaluation of all the expenditures may also be done to ensure a transparent mechanism in this regard, the Minister added.
The meeting of the BOGs also gave approval to the budget of the college for the current financial year besides according retrospective approval to the expenditures incurred during the fiscal year 2012-13. The meeting was told that the government of the Punjab has allocated a sum of Rs. 14 crore and 50 lakh as grant in aid to the college from Provincial Consolidated Fund and the college administration has a kitty of Rs. 8 crore which was collected from the students as college welfare fund in the garb of different expenditures including “Burqa” fund.
Member National Assembly Mrs. Shaista Pervaiz Malik, former MPA Mrs. Ghazala Saad Raffique, Educationists Dr. Khalid Hameed Sheikh, Mrs. Perveen Awan and Dr. Saeed Ahmad Nagra participated in the meeting besides representatives of civil society Aamir Khalid Sheikh and Mrs. Reema Ayyaz. The departments of Higher Education and Finance Department was also represented in the meeting by some junior officers.
